Report methodology


This year's "Global Digital Competitiveness Report" deals with the performance of 64 countries around the world, within three main axes: knowledge, technology, and readiness for the future. The three main axes are divided into 9 sub-axes, which include 52 indicators. The report's methodology is also based on 20 indicators from opinion polls, and 32 indicators for statistical data.

In this year’s report, the UAE came first in the Arab countries in all major axes, as the country achieved fifth place globally in the “technology” axis, and 12th globally in the “future readiness” axis, and jumped 13 ranks at once in the “knowledge” axis, to rank 18 worldwide.

In the nine sub-axes of the report, the UAE ranked first globally in the “Talents” axis, achieving four ranks over last year’s report, and ranked second globally in the “Regulatory Framework” axis, and ranked fifth globally in the “Technological Framework” axis. It also achieved a great leap, reaching 19 ranks at once in the "Education and Training" axis, to rank 25 globally, and ranked tenth globally in the two sub-axes, "Labour Sector Flexibility" and "Information Technology Integration".

The UAE also ranked first in the world in four indicators in the report, which are: “cyber security”, the “net flow of international students” index, the “flexibility of residence laws” index, and the “wireless broadband subscriptions” index. The country also ranked second globally. The country has also achieved a leap of 22 ranks in the “Mobile broadband subscribers” index, to rank 12th globally, and a jump of 9 ranks in the “Proportion of university women with bachelor’s and master’s degrees” index, reaching the tenth place globally, in addition to many Other indicators in which it has made great leaps, the country also came among the top ten globally in 25 out of 52 indicators included in the report.
